Little Things: Vacation Time

Workout: 40 minute weight-session/jump rope interval sessions

Yay, I got up two days in a row and worked out! I couldn't be prouder :)

In fact, I actually went back to bed after the alarm and then made myself get back up. It's amazing how a workout in the AM can give you such a burst of energy!

Even though I didn't listen to my PM alarm because I was watching my Boys get an ugly win (a win is a win). What's your football team?

In other non-interesting news, work is hectic because I'm going to Oracle World next week. So exciting! I've never been to it before, but it's in San Francisco so it wasn't to tough of a decision ;)

SF, SD and DC are actually RC's favorite cities, so of course he wanted to go with me. I also think he slightly panicked at the thought of being home alone with our BB for an entire week. He's such a great father, he would have been fine - but it's still good to know I'm needed around our casita!

Question is, what to do in SF with a baby/toddler? Any ideas?

What are your favorite cities? Next vacay? Places you'd recommend one should go!!!

So ADios

The Salad Case: Lazy, ed

Workout:  Non-Stop Vinyasa flow + 20 min interval run

To say "I've been lazy," is an understatement. Seriously, I was caught in cycle of laziness you could not imagine!

It all started last Wednesday, when I stayed up too late watching some crack-type TV. Not sure if it was, RHWONJ, or Most Eligible Dallas. Whatever it was, it was a crappy show.

Bloggies, I hate to tell ya - but I am a Crack TV junkie!!!

Well, staying up late gave me an excuse to not work out Thursday morning.
Evening photography class + planning my BBs baptism provided the excuse for Friday morning
BBs baptism provided the excuse for Saturday and Sunday mornings (we all know you need to recover after you host a party at home, right?)
Being plane lazy + crack TV watching @ 10 pm each night were my excuses for the rest of the week.

Do you have any secret crack-tv shows?

I got into a bad cycle, the only saving grace was that I was eating relatively good and was crazy busy! Not to mention that I literally carried my BB all day on Saturday. She may have a "slight" case of separation anxiety and the party didn't help too much, either!

All-in-all, the Baptism was beautiful and we felt so blessed:)

However:

lack of exercise + late-night tv watching = sleeping problems + more stress -> lack of exercise

The cycle just keeps on repeating itself!

Today, I hopefully stopped it and I'm even making a point to set the following alarms on my phone:

* 9PM - stop all web surfing/general pc items
* 9:45PM - start getting ready for sleepy time

How do you avoid this cycle? What are some of your wind-down sleepy time tips?

The Salad Case: A rut!

Workout: 30 min Jackier Warner Circuit + 20 min interval run

To say I've been in a workout rut is an understatement! Seriously, between the stomach and actual flu I have not wanted to go near a set of weights, much less the dreaded treadmill!!! What's a gal to do?

Just do it!

Nike had it right!!! It felt so good to get this workout in, I just hope I can remember this feeling the next time I'm tempted to not set my alarm!

Like I've said before, I think the whole nutrition deal boils down to the little tiny choices you make each day.  For instance, I didn't feel like cooking last night, but we decided on paninis and chips. Simple enough for a Sunday, right?

We headed to the store for some supplies and who knew our health food store didn't carry Doritos? Apparently, RC did! We tried these chips instead.

They were pretty good too, plus I could actually understand their ingredient list. I guess choosing where/when to shop actually makes a difference!

Then, as I was making the panini's  I started prepping my salad case for the upcoming week and I said to myself, "Self, why not add a salad to our dinners?" Self listened and the salad added some crunch and loads of flavor which led to a big decrease in total chips consumed - double score!

To avoid another rut of the "warm salad" kind, I went with an actual cold salad. I wanted to switch it up a bit, plus there was no roasting involved!

In this week's case went:

  • couple of handfuls of romaine lettuce
  • shredded carrots and zuchinni
  • cucumbers
  • tomatoes
  • feta cheese
  • garlic olive oil dressing:
    • 1 part white vinegar
    • 2 parts olive oil
    • dash of McCormick's garlic & herbs seasoning
    • 1/2 lemon
Getting yourself out of a rut is not so bad after all!

How do you deal with ruts?

A Natter: Ciggy Talk!

Workout: none :(

Me: Hey!
Co-worker: Hey!
Me: Hey, you know that vapor cigarette that you use, how do you like it? [ed note: I was sitting at my cube when this big puff of smoke came out - I couldn't believe he was using it in the office]
Co-worker: It's pretty good, I like it.

Me: Would you recommend it, my Dad's trying to quit and I was thinking of getting it for him.
Co-worker: Yea it's good. It makes you taste better and smell better. [ed note: I got what he was trying to say, not sure if he picked up on what he actually said?]

Me: Cool, I'm going to look into it. [ed note: yes, I probably say cool way too much]
Co-worker: I'll send you some info of the one I got.
Me: Awesome! Thanks! [ed note: no, I'm not a surfer dude - but I've been told I sound like one]

So yes, my Dad is trying to quit again. He's tried and succeeded a couple of times, but somehow always ends up back at it. We got him the nicotine gum, but he somehow misplaced it a couple of months ago.

Here is the info that was provided:

This is the kit that I have bought over the last 2 years: https://www.cignot.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=KIT-510-NBX . I highly suggest getting it as a manual instead of an automatic since it’s easier to use. You also need to buy a bottle of juice located here https://www.cignot.com/category_s/24.htm . I usually get a VG menthol flavored one but that’s what I like, so you just have to browse through them to see what would be best. If you have any questions let me know.

Have you guys heard of having any success with these? Any random tips that I can pass along to my Dad?

On another note, guess who starts her photography class??? I'm so excited, can't wait - I kind of feel like a kid going back to school again. Have you guys ever taken a "self-help"-type of course?

Can you see the excitement?

I SO SO SO need the photography help (and probably other types of help)!

Little Things: Double Whammys!

Workout: none :(

I was riding the "getting back on the fitness-wagon" theme last week, bloggies. Riding so high - then last Tuesday happened! I don't know if it was the carrot-overload or what, but something wasn't agreeing with my tummy!!

I was decommissioned for the next couple of days and subsisted on Sprite, toast and a cup of Campbell's soup.

I was slowly easing back into food, then I started getting a sore throat a couple of nights ago. Now I'm a congested mess with that oh so "sexy phlem" type of voice.

Let me sing for ya! After all, it may be the only time I don't sound like nails on a chalkboard when I sing. Ok, I'm not that cruel so I'll spare ya the horror!

After being told I was an old lady for not wanting to take the 2hr+ drive to Ruidoso and the lake, I buckled down and so glad I did!

Fear not fit bloggies, my recovery didn't deter me from consuming my fair share of Labor Day junk food!

There was a yummy avocado cheeseburger + a hot dog + chips + hot coffee drinks (gasp!) + chocolate-y heaven! We went up to Ruidoso, NM for a fun day of shopping, eating and playing by the lake. The temperature was a much cooler 60s and we had a blast!

After all the hustle on Sunday, it was good to settle into a healthy, home-cooked meal last night. I just couldn't master the energy to get up and workout this morning. I must start tomorrow!

How about you, how was your Labor Day?
